Three Ways To Avoid A Moving Agreement Nightmare

by Siiri Salonen

Are you planning a move? If so, you may be wondering what is the best approach to getting your items moved to your new residence. There are a few things you can do to ensure that your move is not a disaster. You can do the following things to avoid havoc and have a more pleasant and predictable relocation experience.

Avoid making your decision based solely on the cheapest option.

Relocation is sometimes a pricey endeavor, and that is why some people may choose to try to move their items on their own or hire the cheapest movers. This is a mistake that can cost them in the long-run. For example, the expertise of the movers that offer the lower quote may be subpar in comparison to what you will get from a more established company. This could result in property damages or other unpleasant experiences.

Also, the lowest quote offered to you may not include certain services that the higher quotes extend. For example, a low quote may not include setting your furniture up or taking it into your new place without additional fees.

Avoid relying on verbal promises.

Request to get anything that the mover or another representative promises to provide that is normally not extended at the rate quoted in writing. For example, someone might offer you a complimentary service that is usually available in a different moving package or as an add-on. You need to get such offers in writing because it is possible that the person who extends the promise to you may forget, or they may not be authorized to give away the service. If it is not in writing, it may be your word against theirs and the decision maker for the company could refuse to honor the promise.

Avoid agreeing to terms that you do not understand.

Most moving companies are not likely to try to take advantage of unsuspecting customers, but the legal wording of contracts might be confusing to some people. Some people make the mistake of hastily signing agreements without even taking a moment to do a quick glance over. You need to review your contract carefully and inquire about terms that you do not understand. Pay special attention to sections involving additional fees or property damage.

An in-state moving company is the best resource to use for moves that will take place in your current state. There are national and international movers, but you will likely get the most benefit by choosing a mover that is experienced with moves specific to your state. For example, moving in the brink of winter in a state that has harsh winters would likely be an easy feat for an in-state moving company that is familiar with the climate in your area.

About Me

moving from a house of many years

If you are getting ready to move and you've lived in your home for quite a while, you can quickly get overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that you have to move. If you have advance notice of the move, you can start clearing the house out slowly. When I was packing up our home of nearly twenty years, I knew that I was in for a lot of work. I decided to start 6 months before we moved and slowly began clearing the house out and putting what I wanted to keep for the new home in storage. Use what I have included here on my blog to get through this difficult time a little easier.
